Our week...
Callie was diagnosed w/ strep again Monday night (she had just finished her last round of antibiotics on Saturday). This is the 3rd time in 2 months.
Long story short, she woke up Tuesday morning throwing up...her arms, legs and face were very red and hot to the touch (looked like a bad sunburn).
So, I called her pediatrician Tuesday morning thinking it was an allergic reaction to the medicine (even though it was the same stuff she had just finished and taken before). I also wanted to get a referral to our ENT. Well, the nurse said they couldn't do anything about her medicine since they didn't prescribe it (ER did). At first, she said to call them and see what they thought...then, the more we talked, she said, "Hang on, let me talk to one of the doctor's). She comes back and says, the dr wants to see her now. This was at 9:40...she said, "Be here by 10:00".
Her pediatrician (I had never met this Dr in the group before - I think she's fairly new to this office) at first thought it was Scarlet Fever and wanted to give her a shot of antibiotic. But, you could tell she was a little unsure of that diagnoses. She left the room and came back w/ 2 more doctors.
Every doctor that saw her throat that day had this to say about it: Nasty! Disgusting! Nice medical terms, huh?
Well, the next thing I know, we're in the back of an ambulance on the way to Children's Hospital. They were afraid she either had a staph infection or the strep had spread (which could be BAD). She was running a fever of about 100...her BP was very low and heart rate was high...that alone scared the doctors.
After a few hours in the ER, she finally stabilized (fever had gone up to 103). They admitted her so they could start IV antibiotics. By Tues evening, she was feeling MUCH better.
We wound up staying 2 nights so she could get the antibiotics.
We saw her ENT yesterday and she has surgery scheduled for Oct 22 to take out her tonsils and adenoids.
I just hope we can keep her well until then. Phil was diagnosed w/ Swine Flu yesterday (seems to be a fairly mild case). I am working hard to get things sanitized and keep the kids away from him (easier said than done).
Callie is w/ Mom today...I am finally back at work.
If Callie gets the flu, we have to postpone the surgery 6 weeks!
So, we have tons of Lysol spray, hand sanitizer, and Lysol wipes around the house right now. Phil is wearing a mask and gloves when we're there.
