Afternoon at the ER

We had just gotten home from church and DH and I were fixing lunch. The kids were in the
living room playing. All of a sudden, Josh starts crying. We run in there and he said he
moved his head backwards and now his neck is hurting.

After determining if he could move it at all, I put an ice pack on it. That lasted about
10 seconds, when a spasm of some sort went through his neck and Josh screamed. At this
point, I figured he had a pinched nerve.

I wasn't far off. After spending 4 hours in the ER yesterday afternoon, he's now on
valium and Lortab. :) He was having muscle spasms in his neck muscle...basically, a very
bad crick in his neck.

As soon as the dr touched it, she could feel how tight the muscle was. So, they gave him
some valium for a muscle relaxer and Lortab for the pain.

He's definitely feeling better, but still quite sensitive. If he moves his head backwards, his neck hurts.

We never could find a pharmacy that was open late on a Sunday. Our insurance won't pay
for Walgreens, so that basically leaves CVS...

The dr said to keep him home at least 1 day to give it time to feel better. He keeps
forgetting it hurts and then moves the wrong way. :(

Poor guy - he was in so much pain yesterday afternoon. He would finally get comfy and
then it would hit him again. :( I felt so bad for him.

On the other hand, I was absolutely STARVING by the time we got out of there. We had
just fixed lunch, but he was in so much pain, that I just left mine sitting there (we were
only having sandwiches). Josh did take 1/2 of his sandwich with him and somehow managed
to eat it on the way to the ER. Thank goodness Children's Hospital is close. I'd hate to
think of the crap we would have gone through if we went to the regular hospital.

Phil went to get Josh's prescriptions filled this morning. CVS doesn't carry Valium in
liquid form, so we wound up at Walgreens afterall. Luckily, it wasn't very expensive...who cares if insurance pays for it or not. :)

Josh is still stiff this morning, but doing better. He's at home with mom right now
watching Chicken Little. :)
