Emma's Sick

We thought she had an ear infection, but she has Hand, Foot & Mouth disease!

I ran to work this morning and by the time I got home for her dr. appointment, she had a huge rash/blisters on her bottom - going down her legs and up her back. :(

She has a few blisters on her toes and fingers.

She's just miserable. :( I guess there's not much we can do other than wait it out...we'll give her some Tylenol/Motrin to help her discomfort.

Amazingly, she's asleep right now...hopefully, she'll stay that way for a little while.

Hopefully, she'll be better by the end of the weekend...she started getting fussy Wednesday night.

Callie had an accident last night

I feel absolutely horrible!!

She was sitting at the dinner table in her booster seat (I HATE THOSE THINGS). Phil and I were both in the process of getting dinner on the table. I had given the girls some fruit to snack on while I was getting the rest of their supper ready (they were in major fuss mode).
Anyway, Callie all of a sudden falls out of her seat! I don't know if she tried to stand up or what, but Callie & the booster seat landed on the floor. She screamed and cried. I went over and got her and checked her out to see if there was anything visible. At first, I couldn't see anything.
As she calmed down, I saw that the right side of her face was pretty bruised (I couldn't tell that through the tears because her face gets all splotchy when she cries).

I finally got her calmed down and she was sitting on my lap when I was running my hands across her head to see if she had bumped it. Well, I guess she had because there was a little bit of blood on top of her head. Basically, it looked like she had been scalped (kind of a strong word) in one little place (maybe 1/2" round). I couldn't figure that one out - figured she may have just bumped her head on the table when she was standing back up.

Well, a little bit later, I found this little clump of hair on her shirt! I'm not positive, but I have a feeling the little bit of blood and scrape I found on her head was where this little clump of hair was pulled out. :(

I felt so horrible!!! She was so subdued through supper - although, she did eat.
After supper, I took the kids into the living room to play and she started acting more like herself (silly).

She doesn't seem to be in any pain, but her face still looks a little bruised.
She's had a bad week. :( She fell on our front porch the other day while Mom was watching the girls. She got a little scrape on the left side of her face the. It wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be after mom told me the story!

I will be glad to get rid of those booster seats. Actually, I am getting rid of the one she uses - it doesn't fit in our chairs very well. It was the one we had for Josh (which he rarely used). He mostly used it on the floor. Callie will just have to sit in the regular chair until their youth chairs are finished.

While we were taking care of Callie, Phil had put a bowl of tater tots on the table. Well, Emma grabbed one and popped it into her mouth. It was hot!! She chewed on it for a few seconds and then screamed. Phil got it out of her mouth as quickly has he could and then gave her a drink. She seemed okay after that. She still wanted tater tots! :)

Supper time wasn't a very good time last night.

On a funny note, the kids all tasted honey mustard dressing last night. Even Josh liked it. :) Emma would dip her finger in it and put it in her mouth and say, "Mmmm Mmmmm" and then just laugh and laugh. She acted like she was in heaven! I finally showed her how to dip her chicken in it and she liked that, too. Callie wasn't so interested in it. :(

It's Hard Being a Big Brother

Josh told me this morning that it's hard being a big brother - not sure where that came from. I told him that I understood and agreed with him that it was hard to be a big brother (since I'm a big sister). :) He asked me if I had a baby brother and I told him yes...(he is still trying to get this family thing). Anyway, I told him Scott was my baby brother - even though he wasn't a baby any more.

I just told him he was doing a great job as a big brother and needed to remember 1 main rule...Don't hurt your sisters! :)

It's rough being 5!

Swim Lessons, School Program, etc.

Josh only has 1 more week of swim lessons. I think he's going to miss it! They got to jump off of the diving board on Saturday. He was in heaven. They also got to actually use their arms to swim. :) Up until now, it's been all about floating, holding their breath and such. I want to sign him up for the next class, but I'm not sure that's going to be possible. Mr. Ed is talking about retiring! He may not open up again next year. That will be horrible. :( He's so good!!

Josh starts a new program today at school. He'll basically go the whole school day Monday - Thursday. The program is a grant funded program called Kindergarten Literacy Intervention. It makes it sound like Josh is behind, but he's not. His teacher assured me over and over again that Josh was right where he needed to be for his age. However, because Josh is very shy, she wants him to be in the program to help give him some self confidence and help his verbal skills. I agree that he does have some verbal "problems"...he has trouble saying some letters and sometimes his speech is a little choppy. Mostly, she wants him to overcome his timidness in class (which I totally agree with).

I hope this helps him. I know he's good w/ his letters and numbers and everything else they're working on...Josh is a bright little guy.

He's going to be wiped out! Poor guy! Kindergarten is already wearing him out, but going all day may take him over the edge. :) He'll still go to Kiddie Kottage after school, but he'll only be there for a little over an hour each day (and I still have to pay $80/week??). :)

I won a contest!

Our local radio station has a gazillion contests going on at all times. Anyway, they have a book of the month club (for adults and 1 for children). Well, I guess I won the children's book contest, because yesterday, I got a book, a bag, a couple of pencils and a couple of coupons to Smart Toys & Books! I had no clue I had won. HA!! :)

I wish I had won cash, but I guess I can't complain. :) The book we got was "Legend of The Bluebonnet". I'll admit that I've never heard of it before. But, it looks like it will be cute. I haven't read it to Josh yet - maybe we'll do that tonight.

Last Night

Mom & Dad took the girls last night - kind of at the last minute. Mom's sister, Gaylen, is coming in today (they're traveling the US in an RV). Anyway, mom had no idea what time they'd be here today and they were going to stop in at Mom & Dad's first.

So, the girls stayed there last night. Since we had to pack in a hurry (we left 20 minutes after the call), I forgot to put their pj's and blankets in! UGH! The pj's were sitting right on our bed when we got back last night - I laid them out, but they never made it into their bag. Oh well! They slept in their clothes. :)

Phil, Josh & I went out to eat after that. It was kind of weird to actually get to eat!

We went to AC Moore after that to get a toy organizer. They had one of those organizers w/ about 15 baskets in it for $30. Not a bad deal...well, we got surprised and got another 25% off of that! If we had known we were going to get that off of it, we would have bought 2 of them! :) (I think it was a mistake, so we didn't press our luck to get another one).

Saturday Update

We went to Portrait Innovations today to have the girls' 18 month pictures done (even though they're almost 19 months). :)

Callie didn't want anything to do with the pictures (you can view all the pictures by clicking the link in the title). She cried and fussed the whole time. I'm really surprised her pictures turned out as good as they did. Her individual ones turned out better than the group pictures.

I think we wore the photographer out, because we never did get around to doing a picture of just the girls together...nor did we get to change outfits. :) Oh well!! I'm not displeased.

Josh also had his 3rd swim lessons today. He really seems to be loving it! Mr. Ed is a great teacher!!

Josh is also loving kindergarten. I am really surprised at how well he's doing. In his words, "Kindergarten is AWESOME!!" (Everything is awesome these days). :)

Emma's blood results

We got Emma's results back from the tests done 2 weeks ago (they had to send the blood off to an outside lab). Anyway, Little Miss is perfectly normal. :) What a relief.

It's been so long since her appointment, that I almost don't even remember why the dr wanted to tests done. Oh well! Oh yeah - it had something to do w/ her crossing her legs and pumping them. I guess that's just Emma!

Thank goodness it's Friday. It's been a very long week and I'm sleepy! I'm glad it's a long weekend, too!!

Josh has swim lessons tomorrow. Hopefully, he'll be up for them. He's really struggling this week. He was in bed by 7:30 last night and still woke up groggy. Poor guy! I bet he takes a good long nap tomorrow.

This is his first full week of kindergarten and I think he still likes it, but he sure is tired! :) He had gym class yesterday - he really enjoyed that. He has music class this morning. I hope he had fun in there, too!

His principal came to his class yesterday and read a book to them. He was all excited about that!
