This weekend

This is going to be a nice long weekend for us! I have Monday & Tuesday off for the 4th! Yippee!!

I'm going to take the kids to mom and dad's tomorrow night and the 4 of us are going to spend the night. Phil is going to stay home and catch up on some work (I think he's going to take nice, long uninterrupted naps). Hee hee!

It will be fun to spend the night with mom! I know Josh is looking forward to it - he gets to take his sleeping bag and he loves to do that!

I think we're going to try to stay in on Monday and Tuesday - just have some family time, I guess. :) It might be a good time to really start getting this house ready to sell! We have got to find something bigger! We've completely outgrown this house.

A sad milestone!

Josh was complaining about his tennis shoes hurting him this morning (I only bought them a couple of months ago). So, I told him we would probably need to get some more. He then told me he didn't want lights on his shoes anymore! He was too big for lights on his shoes! :(

Since, when is he too big for lights on his shoes?? The next thing you know, he's going to want shoes with laces instead of velcro on them!!

He's growing up too fast!!

First Surgery Date

Well, it looks like we have our first surgery date. It's going to be August 11 at 7:00 in the morning!! Yikes!!

I'm so nervous about it, but excited at the same time.

Emma will be in the PICU for at least 1 night - hopefully, not any more than that. She has to be able to drink on her own before they'll release her.

I haven't talked to anyone directly yet, so I don't know all of the details (they left a message at work).

It's going to be so weird to see her after the surgery...it's going to be like having a brand new little girl...I'm sort of attached to the "old" girl! :)

Weekend

We went to Kingsport this weekend. I think Josh had a blast! He loves spending time with his grandmother and granddaddy.

The girls had a good time, too. Although, Callie was a little out of sorts. I don't know if it was the new surroundings or her shots from Thursday. Emma did fine until she went to bed. She did NOT sleep very well either night we were there.

When we got home yesterday afternoon, Callie was all smiles again. And, Emma slept through the night without a peep out of her!

I guess they were both glad to be back in familiar territory again. :)

Simon

Simon was a little boy in Josh's class at Kiddie Kottage. Last week, he nearly drowned. He spent a week in PICU at Children's hospital where he died yesterday. :(

I don't know if we'll explain his death to Josh or not. I think we'll wait and see if Josh asks about him again. We talked some about his accident last week. Josh just knew he was in the hospital and really really sick.

Josh's Friend

A little boy (Simon) in Josh's daycare class almost drowned on Sunday. He was in the water for 5 minutes before being rescued.

Right now, things aren't looking good. It looks like he's going to have some brain damage (if he lives). His brain is swelling...it may only be a matter of time.

Josh's class made him a big banner yesterday. They were told that Simon was really sick and that he was in the hospital. I don't know how they will deal with his death. :(

Josh said that Simon plays mostly with Jake and another boy. He's not one of Josh's best buds.

Josh has been saying prayers for Simon (as have we all).

4 year appointment

Josh did great! I was so proud of him. He talked to the nurse when she asked him a question. He also did his eye test and actually told the nurse what each object was! I could tell he was really nervous, but he did great! They said he has 20/40 vision - we're just to keep an eye on it. If he starts holding books really close or getting closer to the tv, then we may have to have it checked out. They're guessing that he just got tired of the test. If you ask me, I think he did a great job - I couldn't even see the bottom row and I have glasses! HA!

When the doctor came in, he wouldn't talk anymore. She asked if he always stuck his fingers in his mouth when he got nervous. Yep!

He's 42 1/2 lbs and 41 3/4" tall (90% and 75%). Hmm...I believe he's going to be tall! LOL

We need to go back to the ENT to have his tubes taken out - I can't believe they're still in there!

We're also going to see a speech therapist to help Josh with some of his letters. He replaces d's with g's. He also uses the "k" sound for t's.

Basically, he's healthy as a horse. :)

Emma's ENT Appt

Well, we really don't know much more now than we did before.

We do know that the dr does not want to put tubes in now. He wants to wait and see if she needs them at the time of the palate repair. He said that if he put them in now, then the ears would drain into her mouth, nose, etc. because there's basically nowhere else for it to drain.

Right now, there is also some hearing loss. We still don't know if it's permanent or not. Emma goes back in July for a hearing test. The test will take 2-3 hours and she will need to be sedated. :(
