Daycare

The girls have been in day care for 3 weeks now (going 2 days a week). When I picked them up yesterday, they were sitting at the table playing. Neither made a move to get up and greet me...hmph! :) They didn't want to be bothered while they were playing. Emma finally came over to me and eventually, Callie did too - with her toys in tow.

This morning when I dropped them off, they both went to the table, pulled out a chair and sat down! Neither of them fussed. They both gave me hugs and kisses and that was that. No whining, no crying, no nothing! I guess the girls don't mind being at "school".

It took Josh 3 years before he would do that! He cried almost every morning when I dropped him off!

Ouch!

Josh was playing on the stairs this weekend...he was playing quietly and behaving very well.

Well, when he was finished playing, he said, "mommy, I fell and hurt my cheek". His cheek looked awful! It was scratched all the way down his face and very obviously bruised! He had fallen on a piece of the "Don't Break the Ice" game. He never cried, fussed or anything! It looked absolutely awful!

He was a real trooper, though. I put some neosporin on it - he wasn't thrilled with that, but held as still as he could. :)

By Sunday, while it still looked bad, it had greatly improved from Saturday night.

He said it hurt when he closed his eyes really tight. Poor guy!

I'll post some pictures of it on our site (eventually).

I still can't believe he didn't even cry - I would have!

Witches Everywhere

The library book Josh checked out yesterday was about witches.

So, he spends the whole evening saying the witches were going to be out tonight at 11:00 and he wanted to see them. He went on saying his teacher told him they'd be out, etc. He kept looking for the "big fat moon" so he could see the witches fly in front of it.

He went on for a couple of hours with stories about witches.

Just before he went to bed, he looked at me with a cute little grin and said, "I was only tricking you about the witches". :) Phil and I played along with him. I just laughed and said, "I know...I know you know there aren't any witches". He just laughed and went to bed.

Daycare, Day 1

The girls did great at drop off this morning. I stayed with them for a little while. They had oatmeal for breakfast and Emma just dove right in. Callie, on the other hand, was a little more cautious. I finally just fed her a bite and she spit it out. :) They brought her some Cheerios instead. Well, after Emma finished her oatmeal, she started eating Callie's Cheerios. Callie just looked at her like she was crazy and took them back. Emma got her own bowl. :)

Neither girl cried this morning...I got a few whimpers and both were clingy, but they never cried.

**********************

I just called daycare. The girls are doing just fine. They've played with playdough and colored.

There's another new girl today named Kylie. She and Callie were...get this...don't pass out...they were sharing crayons!! :) I just laughed. I told her teacher that surprised me since Callie didn't share well. She said the other little girl doesn't seem to be one to take "no" for an answer, so Callie may have met her match. :)

Miss Pat said Emma has stayed pretty close to her...she's asked to be picked up quite a bit. Pat said she'd pick her up and give her a big hug and then redirect her to another activity.

They're going to start working on regular cups, too. I told her Callie did okay, but Emma has a little trouble. She said she would make sure Emma uses the sippy cup at lunch to make sure she gets enough milk and then let her use the regular cup at snack time. :)

So far, so good. :)

3:00 this morning

Callie decided to wake up around 3:00 this morning. Phil wound up bringing her to bed with us because she wouldn’t go back to sleep.

Well, she decided she wanted to talk. I had turned over so my back was to her. She started saying, “My purple pass (paci)”…then she asked where everyone was…Emma, Josh, Sock (Scott), Wheat (Wendy), etc. LOL She talked for 15 minutes. Phil and I were both trying to get her to shoosh. Well, then she started pushing me – like she was pushing me out of bed. I finally turned over and she cuddled up against me. She was trying to turn me over – not push me out of bed.

She also asked if she could eat “Me eat”…”Pink Milk”…”Apple Juice”. She cracks me up. I just wish she hadn’t done this at 3:00 in the morning.

She FINALLY fell back to sleep sometime after 3:30.

Daycare

Well, the girls are going to start daycare on Thursday. They're only going to go 2 days a week for awhile. It's a little pricey to send them both full time right now.

I'm really glad we're finally able to get in - we've been on a waiting list forever. They don't really do part time toddlers (they do after they turn 2). But, our daycare just built a new facility, so some of the kids will be transferring to the new place and that left some room in the 2 year old room. Even though the girls won't be 2 until next month, they're going to go ahead and put them in there now.

This will mean I'll actually get to work at the office on Fridays now. It will also give Mom a break - she'll only keep them 2 days a week and occasionally 3 when Phil's parents can't make it.

I hope they do well. Other than church, they've not been in a setting like this...I'm sure they'll adjust and hopefully thrive. Emma will probably fair better than Callie will. Emma likes structure - Callie not so much so. :)

Relationships are a funny thing

The kids were at Mom & Dad's on Saturday while Phil and I went to a funeral (actually just receiving of friends).

Anyway, Josh was showing Mom some of toys from Christmas. Mom asked him where he got his kaleidescope and Josh's reply, "From Daddy's parents". :) Mom about lost it. She was expecting him to say Grandmother and Granddaddy...not Daddy's parents.

He's really trying hard to get the relationships down. He understands that his grandparents are our parents.

Merry Christmas - a little late

We had a wonderful Christmas. We went to church with Mom & Dad on Christmas Eve and then spent the rest of the day with them.

Josh was a little grumpy a good bit of the day - I guess we should have forced him to take a nap. Oh well! He still had a good time.

By the end of the day, Callie was getting a little grumpy, too. We discovered she was running a fever of 102! :( When we got home, we gave her some Tylenol (cold medicine - she was starting to cough and have a runny nose). Mom agreed to keep Callie with her on Christmas Day while we went to Kingsport.

When we got up Christmas morning, Callie seemed to be feeling better - no fever, but still a cough and runny nose. The cold medicine kept that at bay most of the day.

Santa was very good to the kids. Josh was extremely pleased with his presents. :) The girls got a little kitchen set which they played with while the rest of us were opening presents. They weren't interested in opening gifts.

We got ready to leave for Kingsport and decided to stop somewhere and get the kids some lunch (there were a few places open). Well, we messed up and wound up going to the Huddle House at exit 407. We ordered some grilled cheese sandwiches for the kids and after 30 minutes, we still didn't have any food. People that came in after us were getting their food, though. We finally just left (what a wasted 45 minutes). We grabbed some cheese sticks from the convenient store and hit the road. We didn't get to Kingsport until 2:30 (much later than we had originally planned).

We had a wonderful supper w/ Phil's family and then all of the kids got to open more presents! Boy, did they ever wind up with a boatload of stuff!! :)

We came home Tuesday evening and crashed at home. I took the rest of the week off, so we just stayed at home all week, which was wonderful!

The kids and I did go to Dollywood on Thursday with my parents. Before that, we met up with a great gal from one of my message boards! She and her family were in Gatlinburg from Indiana. Josh and her little boy hit it off at once!! That's really amazing because both are fairly shy. :) You would have thought they were best friends at the end of the visit!!
